Every year on the 2nd Sunday in May, Austria celebrates MOTHER"S DAY in honour of all mothers and grandmothers, just as on the 2nd Sunday in June, FATHER"S DAY is celebrated in honour of all fathers, dads and grandpas. Many people in Salzburg use both days as an opportunity to buy small gifts or go on outings with the whole family. For this purpose, children learn poems by heart, paint gift cards and like to make something as a small gift.

Would you like something high-proof for mum or dad? The Hetz family distils more than 10 different types of fruit, such as plum, apple, Williams pear, rowan berry and apricot. The brandies are available from the farm at the Grubenbauer in the centre of Puch - Tel. 0664 5060016. The fruits collected in autumn are processed into the finest brandies in the cold winter season. When the fruit is ripe, it is collected by hand, stored as mash and then distilled in the distillery into high-proof drops.

Flowers for every occasion

You can"t go wrong with a bouquet of flowers, a decorative accessory or a seasonal arrangement, especially for mothers. You can find the right flower greeting at Blumenwerk Helga in the middle of the village. For Mother"s Day, she has extended opening hours for you: Friday and Saturday from 8.30-18.00 and Sunday from 8.30-13.00!

10 excursion tips for the whole family on Mother"s Day and Father"s Day

1. Go for ice cream in Hallein or in the city of Salzburg.

3. Have a bathing day! Visit the nearby baths such as the Watzmanntherme, Rupertustherme, Heiltherme Bad Vigaun or the Aqua Salza in Golling. The outdoor swimming pool in Hallein is also open again and offers leisure fun for the whole family.
4. Animal lovers will love a trip to Salzburg Zoo.
5. Make yourself comfortable with popcorn and go to the cinema. The  Stadtkino Hallein, the Cineplexx Airport or Das Kino are sure to have the right cinema programme for you.
6. Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through the city of Salzburg and let us show you the most beautiful places in the world-famous city of Mozart.
7. Bike tour to one of the beautiful natural sites in the Tennengau, such as the Gollinger waterfall or the Lammerklamm gorge in Scheffau. Tip: on Mother"s Day, admission to the Lammerklamm is free for mothers!
8. Alpine hike! Numerous farmed alpine pastures await you in Salzburgerland. From Puch I recommend a hike to the Erentrudisalm or Fageralm!
